BUDDY WOODWARD

Buddy Woodward A childhood rodeo rider who spent part of his youth in California loving the sounds of Buck Owens, the Byrds, Flatt & Scruggs, & AM radio, BUDDY WOODWARD was founding member & lead singer of the much-loved "alt.country" band, THE GHOST ROCKETS, who were frequent visitors to the House of Vibes. Shortly after, Buddy put together BUDDY WOODWARD & THE NITRO EXPRESS focusing on, as he calls it, "the killer B's" (Bakersfield, Byrds, Bluegrass, Buffalo Springfield, et.al.).

Buddy also organized the first annual Tribute to the Byrds/Gene Clark show at New York's Bottom Line in May 2000, leading the house band & performing with special guests that included Hellecaster John Jorgenson and Dennis Diken (Smithereens), as well as rick and Kurt from the Grip Weeds. He did not, however, get the part of Mike Nesmith in the VH1 Monkees movie! As a consolation prize, Buddy leads off dren records' CD, "Papa Nez: A Loose Salute to the Work of Michael Nesmith," released in May of 2001, with his version of "You Told Me," which was singled out by Buzz McClain at the Washington Post as being one of the best cuts on the CD. This song was recorded at the HOV and features not only Buddy along w/ Anne Benkovitz, Carl Zern and John Graboff, but also Grip Weeds Kristin, Kurt and Rick.  Buddy is threatening to cut an entire solo album at the studio, but we'll just have to wait and see...
